Government jobs count your age on a date the notification fixes, not today. Enter that date and the notified limits, and this works out your exact age then, the relaxation you are entitled to, and whether you fall inside the limit.

How to use this calculator

Enter your date of birth as it appears on your Class 10 certificate.
Enter the “age as on” date printed in the notification — often 1 January, 1 July or 1 August, and rarely the closing date.
Enter the minimum and maximum age the notification states for the post.
Choose your category and tick PwBD or ex-serviceman if they apply to you. Ex-servicemen can add their years of military service.
Calculate. The result gives your exact age, the date until which you stay inside the limit, and each step in “Show the working”.

How it is calculated

Your age is counted in completed years between your date of birth and the as-on date, and shown exactly in years, months and days. A candidate born on 2 August 1999 is 26, not 27, on 1 August 2026.

Relaxation raises only the upper limit, never the lower one. The standard central relaxations are added together: a PwBD candidate who is also SC gets both the SC and the PwBD relaxation.

For ex-servicemen the relaxation depends on the post. For Group C and D posts filled by direct recruitment it is the period of military service plus three years, which the calculator applies when you give your service; otherwise it uses a flat three years.

Because age is counted in completed years, a limit of 30 admits you until the day before your 31st birthday. The result gives that date, so you can see how long an age limit stays open to you.

Many notifications set their own relaxations — for departmental candidates, widows, domicile or a particular state — and those override the standard ones. Where your notification gives a relaxation for government employees, you can enter its figure; where it states a different figure for anything else, it is the notification that counts.

Worked example

Born 15 March 1999, OBC (non-creamy layer), for a post with an age limit of 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026: you are 27 years 4 months 17 days old, the OBC relaxation makes your upper limit 30, and you stay inside it until 14 March 2030.

Which date should I use for “age as on”?

The one the notification prints next to the age limit. It is usually a fixed date such as 1 January or 1 August of the recruitment year, and it can be different from the last date to apply.

Does EWS get age relaxation?

Not under the standard central rules. EWS candidates are held to the same upper age limit as the general category unless a notification says otherwise.

I cross the limit by a few days. Am I eligible?

Usually not. Age limits are counted to the day, so being one day over the maximum on the as-on date makes a candidate ineligible unless a relaxation covers it.
