Quick answer
A qualification-first map of government healthcare jobs — from hospital support posts after Class 10th, through nursing, pharmacy and laboratory diplomas, to MBBS and specialist posts — so you can see which roles you are eligible for now, and which the next qualification would open.
Healthcare guides are usually organised by recruiter — AIIMS, ESIC, the railways, the state health departments. This one starts from what you have studied, and points you to the posts that qualification opens. For how the recruiters themselves differ, see healthcare government jobs explained.

After Class 10th or 12th
Hospitals recruit support staff — ward attendants, hospital attendants, multi-tasking staff — on a Class 10th or 12th pass. These posts sit at the lowest pay levels, but they are permanent government jobs in the health system. Every vacancy for your level is at 10th-pass jobs and 12th-pass jobs.
After a Nursing Qualification (ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing)
- ANM (auxiliary nurse midwife) leads mainly to community and primary health posts in state health departments.
- GNM diploma or B.Sc Nursing leads to Staff Nurse / Nursing Officer posts — at AIIMS through NORCET, at ESIC, in the railways and in state health services. AIIMS NORCET accepts a GNM diploma only with at least 2 years' experience in a hospital of 50 beds or more; a B.Sc Nursing needs no experience.
The staff nurse guide compares the routes, and staff nurse vacancies lists the current ones.
After a Pharmacy Qualification (D.Pharm, B.Pharm)
A pharmacy diploma or degree, with registration as a pharmacist, leads to Pharmacist posts in central and state hospitals, ESIC dispensaries and the railways. See pharmacist vacancies.
After a Laboratory or Technical Diploma (DMLT, Radiography, OT and Others)
A medical laboratory technology qualification leads to Lab Technician and laboratory assistant posts; radiography, ECG, OT and similar diplomas lead to their own technician posts. ESIC recruits a wide range of these, as the ESIC guide shows. See lab technician vacancies, and every diploma vacancy at diploma jobs.
After a Science Degree (B.Sc)
A B.Sc in a relevant subject opens laboratory and technical posts that a diploma alone does not, and is the base for the nursing and laboratory degrees above. Every B.Sc vacancy is at B.Sc jobs.
After MBBS
MBBS is the qualification for Medical Officer posts:
- Central government — through UPSC Combined Medical Services, into the Central Health Service, the railways and other central bodies.
- State governments — through state PSCs or health recruitment boards; see state medical officer posts.
- ESIC — Insurance Medical Officer posts, covered in the ESIC guide.
- The armed forces — short service commission in the medical corps; see defence medical services.

After MD, MS or a Diploma in a Specialty
A postgraduate medical qualification leads to specialist, senior resident and faculty posts in government medical colleges and central institutions. Every postgraduate vacancy is at post-graduate jobs.
