Physical Standards Calculator
Police, CAPF and defence posts set a minimum height, a chest measurement for men, and often a qualifying run. Choose the force and enter your measurements to see whether you meet the standard, with the concessions for ST candidates and hill-area residents applied.
How to use this calculator
- Choose the force and post — or “another force” to enter the standard from your own notification.
- Choose your gender and, if it applies, the ST or hill-area concession.
- Enter your height in centimetres, measured without footwear, and for male candidates your chest unexpanded and expanded.
- Optionally enter your time for the qualifying run.
- Calculate to see each requirement next to your measurement.
How it is calculated
The standard for the chosen force and gender is looked up from our reference table, and the concession for your category is taken off the height and chest requirement. Where a force sets its own concession — UP Police gives ST men 8 cm, not 5 — its own figure is used.
The central forces are as their notifications state them. State police standards are marked as typical: states revise their rules and several vary them by category and district.
Where the force sets a qualifying run, your time is checked against it; the other events of the physical efficiency test are set in each notification.
Your height is compared with the requirement, and your chest is checked both unexpanded and for the minimum expansion.
Concessions differ between forces and are sometimes extended to particular states or communities. The notification you apply under decides; the physical test decides the measurement.
Worked example
A male candidate for CAPF Constable through SSC GD, no concession, 171 cm tall with an 80 cm chest expanding to 85 cm, who runs 5 km in 23 and a half minutes: height, chest and run are all within the standard.

Is height measured with shoes?
No. Height is measured barefoot at the physical standard test, and the recruiting body’s measurement is final.
What about running and other physical tests?
Where the force sets a qualifying run, this checks your time against it. Long jump, high jump and the other events of the physical efficiency test are set in each notification, and are not checked here.
